Am considering a compact tractor to replace my Ford 8N.Looking at John Deere 790 and 4100; also Kubota B1700/2100/2400.Will use with a rotary mower, for snow plowing, belly mower, may get a loader.Any thoughts on relative quality for the money of Deere vs. Kubota?

I just bought a 4wd 790 with a loader. I looked at the 4100, but the 790 looked stronger, had less plastic, is a time tested design and has more horsepower. I also considered Kubota, but my brief look at their website and discussions with dealers led me to believe the JD customer service was superior. I tried to search for dealers on the Kubota website, but it would only pull up dealers within a fixed distance from my zip. For further dealers, it said to call cust. service - so I did. The CS person could not do any better. I then called some dealers inquiring about an L3000DT and none had even heard of it - even Carver. That's why I went John Deere. I got it for about $14,800 out the door in Sanford, NC

Good Luck

I was in the exact same situation. I just sold my 8N because I orderd a 790. I have been looking for the last six years for a used tractor, but had no luck. I wanted a 25hp tractor and live PTO. I found the B2400 to be a nice unit but thought it was a little small physically. I want a lager front end loader than the B2400 could handle. I looked at the B2710 and it fit the bill perfectly, but was a little out of the price range, along with a JD4200 and Boomer 25D. I wanted hydrostatic, but felt I could live with out it, and the couple of thousand $ I saved by going with the 790, I can get a tiller. I liked the 8N and wanted to keep it, but needed the cash for the 790. I think the quality between Deere and Kubota is the same, and for me the deciding factor was size and price. In one to 6 weeks I should have the 790. ....

Sounds to me like what you need is a BOOMER TC25 or 29D. Red Green Blue are all great tractors. But.... The BOOMERS are really great. So easy to operate, controls are all within easy reach, loaded with features you don't even think about. Maintenance friendly (filters & grease fitting all easy to reach), user friendly. Just an all around great tractor. Good luck what ever you buy. ....

You need to at least go look at, and try to operate, each of the big three. They all make some fine tractors, and you ought to buy the one that feels best to you. Of course, I have had a B7100 and now have a B2710 and think the Kubota is first choice (sorry, Dusty). ....
